We were out feeding pigs & came back to the house at 10.00 am to hear the foaling alarm going off. We rushed around the side of the house to see Annie having just been born.
Out with pigs again and kids came running down to tell us lilly was foaling. I ran up to the house and lilly was standing with the head and one leg hanging out. The foal was lifeless with tongue hanging out and very dark colour. No life in the poor baby and I was devastated. There was no way I was going to get the head back in to try and find the other leg so I grabbed the leg and pulled and pulled. Lilly was trying so hard but the foal was stuck and she threw herself sideways on the ground and the sudden crash must have jolted the foal and he started spluttering. I then gave another almighty pull and out he came. Mum and bub appear fine after such an ordeal but will keep my eye on lilly to make sure she recovers. Lilly was not fully bagged up so I was not really expecting her to foal although we did have the alarm on her at night.
