My name is Kim Smith and along with my husband Brian and 2 girls Alex & Kara we run a small Miniature Shetland Pony Stud and Pastoral Company. Our stud is located on 300 acres in North East Victoria near Wangaratta. We also breed a small quantity of Beef Cattle, grow steers and crop hay. Our hay ranges include Rye/Clovers, Oaten & Lucerne. Hay (round bales & small squares) are usually available for sale around November each year.

Our objective is to breed quality miniature shetland ponies with good conformation & exceptional temperaments suitable for the whole family to enjoy. We have selected our breeding stock over the years to produce the best of natures in our foals. We do not have a pony on our property that bites or kicks. All our ponies are suitable for all ages.

I started breeding part bred Arabians in 1972 and bought my first shetland pony in 1981.

A year later arrived the stallion "Kunnara Valley Lanaba" and a couple more mares. From this the "Opra Park" stud evolved.

I continued breeding Arabians and Shetlands until I sold the last of my Arabians in 1990.

After the  Opra Park partnership was dissolved, the stud was renamed in 1995 to "Koonwarra".

Our pony population hovers around 15 - 20 adult ponies + foals.  All the ponies at "Koonwarra" are Registered APSB (Shetland) & AMPS (Miniature).  Most of the broken coloured ponies are also registered VPS (Pinto).
